Send Folders with WeTransfer - Nested Directory Tunnels
Learn how to send folders using WeTransfer. Secure browser-to-browser P2P tunnels transfer nested directory structures without needing zip compression. Our professional file transfer infrastructure is optimized for multi-gigabyte data sharing, ensuring your files move at the speed of light using P2P technology.

Sending Folders with WeTransfer: Nested Directory Streams
Share entire folder layouts using our guide: Send Folders with WeTransfer. Most traditional platforms require zipping your directories locally before uploading. Direct peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers preserve your directory architectures natively inside the stream. Check out details on our primary WeTransfer hub.
By utilizing browser-based WebRTC channels, you can stream nested subfolders and multiple files directly, saving time and storage space.
Folder Sharing
- ✓ Preserve Directories: Maintain subfolder layouts and original file structures without compression.
- ✓ No Local Zipping: Bypasses CPU-heavy local zipping, allowing you to share files immediately.
- ✓ Uncapped Size: Transfer large project folders containing thousands of nested assets.
Full Privacy & Encryption
- ✓ End-to-End Encryption: DTLS/SRTP protocols with AES-256 secure the connection channel completely.
- ✓ No Server Interception: Files are streamed directly and never stored on intermediate cloud server disks.
- ✓ Privacy Protection: No registration, email logins, or account requirements for downloaders.
Workflow: Preserving Folder Layouts on Peer Streams
Our browser coordinate system initiates direct socket tunnels in seconds. Review the folder sharing workflow below.
Stage Local Folders
Drag and drop entire folders. The application loads nested metadata and file paths into the session instantly.
Send Secure Link
Copy the direct session link. Share this connection link with the downloader using any messaging platform.
Keep Active Stream
Ensure your browser tab remains open. Once the recipient starts downloading, the data streams live from memory.
NAT Traversal Protocol and Secure Traversal Fallbacks
Most devices on the internet sit behind NAT routers or enterprise firewalls that prevent incoming connections. Our signaling server acts as a coordinator, employing public STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT) servers to discover raw network paths between the sender and recipient.
In cases where extremely strict network policies block direct UDP peer connectivity, the system falls back to a TURN (Traversal Using Relays around NAT) server path. Since all data is fully encrypted end-to-end with local AES-256 keys, the TURN relay server only acts as a blind carrier and cannot inspect the contents of your transfer.
Frequently Asked Questions About Folder Sharing
Do I need to zip folders before sharing?
No. Our P2P streaming client natively maps folder paths, allowing the receiver to download the original nested hierarchy.
Are there directory depth limitations?
No. Senders can select deeply nested folder structures. The web interface reads and recreates directories on-the-fly.
Is a login required to send folders?
No. You can send folders securely without passwords or registrations, protecting your personal email from data harvesting.
Can I close the browser during a transfer?
No. Since files are streamed directly from device memory, both browser tabs must remain open to complete the transmission.
Are files stored on your servers?
No. Point-to-point transfers move data directly from the sender's browser memory to the receiver's device, skipping server staging entirely.
What browsers are supported?
Any modern web browser with WebRTC capabilities, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Brave.
